Sam McBeath Wins the StatSheet Southland Freshman of the Week - February 6th, 2012

StatSheet's Southland Player of the Week for February 6th goes to Lamar's Brandon Davis. Sam McBeath has won StatSheet Southland Freshman of the Week. And last but certainly not least, Kannon Burrage from Texas-San Antonio has won StatSheet's Southland 6th Man of the Week.

Davis finished first in the Southland in three pointers (4.5 per game). He also had 5 rebounds per game and 22 points per game. The Lamar senior played well in wins against Southeastern Louisiana and Texas-San Antonio.

Davis led all scoring for the Cardinals with 21 points while adding 7 rebounds in a big 83-59 win over Southeastern Louisiana. He followed that up with a team-leading 23 points plus an additional 3 rebounds in an 80-66 victory against Texas-San Antonio.

This is the first time this season that Brandon Davis has been named StatSheet Southland Player of the Week. However, he has received an honorable mention. The runner-up this week is Lamar senior Anthony Miles. Honorable mention goes to senior Devon Lamb from Lamar. Dantrell Thomas was the highest ranking player from Nicholls State, finishing fourth.

StatSheet Southland Freshman of the Week: Nicholls State's Sam McBeath

Sam McBeath was on the floor an average of 26 minutes as a starter for Nicholls State. He was number one among all Southland freshmen in three pointers (2.5 per game). In a late 65-61 win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, McBeath registered 18 points and 7 rebounds. Following that in a massive 96-75 win against Texas State, he totaled 5 rebounds and 2 blocked shots.

This marks the second time this season that Sam McBeath has won the StatSheet Southland Freshman of the Week. Our own Trevon Lewis gets runner-up. Desharick Guidry from McNeese State takes honorable mention.

StatSheet Southland 6th Man of the Week: Texas-San Antonio's Kannon Burrage

Junior Kannon Burrage, a 6-3 reserve guard, averaged 29 minutes of action over two games for the Roadrunners. In a 67-66 loss to Texas-Arlington, Burrage led the scoring for the Roadrunners with 21 points and also added 3 steals. Then in an 80-66 loss to Lamar, he racked up 13 points and 3 rebounds.

Kannon Burrage has won the StatSheet Southland 6th Man of the Week a total of 3 times. James Hulbin, a junior forward from Northwestern State, is runner up. Gary Stewart, a sophomore guard from Northwestern State, earns honorable mention. Nicholls State players have not yet been named StatSheet Southland Player of the Week this season.
